Art Therapy Schools and Colleges

Most art therapists hold masterís degrees in art therapy. To qualify for these programs, applicants are required to have a bachelorís degree before being admitted. Many programs also require prospective students to submit art portfolios during the application process. Additionally, applicants are also required to complete 12 credit hours of psychology classes and 18 credit hours of art classes. It usually takes 2 years to complete a masterís degree program in art therapy.

Art therapy graduate students are required to complete courses in psychotherapy, human development, psychology, patient evaluation, ethics, and other subjects applicable to art therapy. Many graduates of post-undergraduate counseling programs minor in art therapy. Art therapists often enroll in art therapy doctorate degree programs.
