Audiology Schools and Colleges

To become a practicing audiologist you must earn a doctoral degree in audiology (Au.D.) from an accredited audiology program. Most doctoral level audiology programs take about 4 years to complete. Doctoral program applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A bachelor's degree in a science or other health related field is preferred.

Graduate level audiology programs include extensive course work and supervised clinical training. Courses typically include physiology, anatomy, genetics, diagnosis and treatment, normal and abnormal communication development, pharmacology, and ethics. Licensing in some states requires that audiologists graduate from a program that is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation, so you'll want to check to see what you're state's licensing requirements are before you select an audiology program.

Licensing requirements for this profession vary from state to state so you'll want to contact your state's licensing board for audiologists before you get set on an educational track.

In addition to earning a Au.D. there other professional certificates and credentials that audiologists can obtain. These include the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and another credential offered through American Board of Audiology. While certification is typically not required, some employers may require certification, and it will satisify some or all the requirements for licensure in some states.

Below you'll find accredited colleges and universities offering accredited degree programs in audiology.
