Dietetic Technician Salary Information

As of May 2009, the mean hourly wage for a dietetic technician is approximately $14 an hour and the average salary is nearly $29,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

According to Payscale.com, during 2010, dietetic technicians with less than a year of experience earned between $10 an $14; with one to four years of experience, $13 to $15 an hour; with five to nine years of experience, $13 to $16; and 10 to 19 years of experience, $14 to $18 an hour.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics as of May 2009, general medical and surgical hospitals employed the largest number of dietetic technicians who on average earned a salary of nearly $30,000. Other industries that employ a large number of dietetic technicians include nursing care facilities, $26,000 a year; community care facilities for the elderly, $24,500 a year; local governments, $30,000 a year; and elementary and secondary schools, $28,000 a year.

Health practitioner and medical offices typical pay dieticians and dietetic technicians the highest average salary of $39,000 a year, above all other industries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Other industries that offered high pay include nursing care facilities, $35,000 a year; community care facilities for the elderly, $33,000 a year; local governments, $33,000 a year; and elementary and secondary schools, $32,000 a year.

Of all the states in the nation, Minnesota pays the highest average salary above all other states to dietetic technicians providing a salary of $37,580, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Other states that offere high pay to dietetic technicians include Maryland at $37,000 a year; Ohio at $36,500 a year; Connecticut at $35,000 a year; and New York, $34,500 a year.
