General Aide Salary Information

General aides often specialize. As of 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, general aides earn hourly wages averaging $11.46 per hour. Psychiatric aides earn slightly more, averaging $12.77 per hour.

Hourly wages are affected by geographic location. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, general aides employed in New York average $14.63 an hour, while those employed in Arkansas average $9.53 an hour. General aides working in Alaska earn average hourly wages of $15.53 an hour, while those working in Maine average $11.28 an hour.

Hourly wages for general aides are also affected by where they work. As of 2008, general aides employed in hospitals earn average hourly wages of $12.05 per hour, while those working at assisted living facilities average $11.53 per hour. General aides employed with home healthcare companies earn average hourly wages of $10.58 an hour, while those working for employment service organizations average about $12.10 an hour. Employment service organizations typically pay higher wages, but these jobs are often temporary and benefit-less.
