Occupational Therapy Assistant Schools and Colleges

High school students interested in an occupational therapy assistant career should take health, biology, chemistry, and other science courses. After graduating, they can further their education at a vocational or community college. Those who’ve completed volunteer work or have applicable work experience enjoy the best job opportunities.

Most occupational therapy assistants hold associate’s degrees. It typically takes 2 years to earn an associate’s degree. During formal study, students are required to complete classes in pediatric health, biology, psychology, and anatomy. Occupational therapy assistant students also acquire clinical experience during school.

You must obtain a degree from an accredited school to become licensed. The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) currently recognizes 300 degree programs.

Occupational therapy aides usually hold a high school or general equivalency degree. They complete training after being hired. Depending on the organization, training can take weeks or months to complete. Newly hired aides complete classroom instruction and hand-on training under the supervision of occupational therapists or experienced assistants.

Below our editors have compilled a comprehensive directory of occupational therapy assistant and aide schools and college.
