Perfusionist Schools and Colleges

The Accreditation Committee – Perfusion Education (AC-PE) requires that all accredited perfusion education programs cover the following concepts: medical ethics, quality assurance, safety, biomedical engineering, laboratory analysis, biology, and cardiopulmonary medical assistance and bypass procedures. Perfusion education programs are available at the professional certificate, bachelor’s, and graduate levels.

It typically takes 18-24 months to complete a perfusion education program. The Texas Heart Institute offers a 12 month program. Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree and satisfy prerequisite requirements. After graduating, students are awarded a post-graduate perfusion technology certificate. The University of Pittsburgh also offers a short 15 month program. 12 highly qualified Carlow College graduates meeting all necessary requirements are admitted to this program each year. Students graduate with a bachelor of science in biology with a certificate in perfusion technology.
