Pharmacy Technician Salary Information

During 2009, median entry-level annual wages for pharmacy technicians ranged anywhere from $8 to $11 per hour. Pharmacy techs with 5 years or more of work experience typically earned anywhere from $10 to $15 an hour.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that pharmacy technicians are paid hourly average wages of $13.70 an hour, while those receiving salaries earn an average of $28,500 a year.

During 2008, 80 percent of these professionals earned anywhere from $9 to $19 an hour. Pharmacy technicians with wages in the 50th percentile range typically earned anywhere from $11 to $16 an hour.

During 2008, pharmacy technicians employed at grocery stores averaged about $13.70 an hour. Those working at surgical and general hospitals earned hourly wages averaging near $15.50, while pharmacy technicians employed at department store pharmacies earned average hourly wages ranging from $12.40 to $12.80.

During 2008, pharmacy technicians employed in Alaska, Washington, Hawaii, and California earned more than their colleagues in other states, averaging anywhere from $17 to $18 an hour. Pharmacy technicians employed in Santa Cruz, San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland, California averaged anywhere from $18 to $20.50 an hour.
