Pharmacy Technicians

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists with various tasks. They are employed at managed care clinics, mail service pharmacies, assisted living facilities, hospitals, store pharmacies, and companies that provide home healthcare services.

Working Conditions
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in well-ventilated, organized, and clean pharmacies. They're often required to lift and carry heavy objects. Technicians usually work normal business hours, which could include holidays, nights, and weekends. Pharmacy technicians employed at hospitals can be assigned early morning and graveyard shifts. Once they acquire some seniority, they often choose their work schedules. Many pharmacy technicians work part-time.

Career Training and Education
Students enrolled in pharmacy-technician training programs will receive laboratory and classroom instruction in pharmaceutical techniques, recordkeeping, terminology, math, and ethics. They'll also learn about mediation doses, uses, and names. Some programs offer internships within pharmacies. Both pharmacy technician degree and certificate programs are available.
