Surgical Technologist Schools and Colleges

High school students aspiring to work as surgical technologists can prepare for this career by taking math, chemistry, biology, health, anatomy, and physiology classes.

Surgical technologists are usually required to complete some college-level training. Vocational and community colleges administer surgical technology training programs. It typically takes 2 years to earn an associate’s degree and several months to obtain a professional certificate. Students applying to these programs should have a high school or general equivalency degree.

Surgical technology students take classes in anatomy, medical terminology, biology, physiology, and other medical subjects. Likewise, students complete clinical training in hospitals and surgery clinics. Students also learn how to avoid infections, sterilize equipment, and perform patient care duties.

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is responsible for accrediting surgical technology programs. Be sure to choose a program recognized by the CAAHEP.

Below you'll find schools, colleges and universities that offer surgical technologist training programs.
