Veterinarian Salary Information

As of 2006, entry-level salaries for small animal veterinarians right out of school were between $56,000 - 57,000 a year, while those specializing in large animals make about $61,000 a year.

During 2008, women who setup and manage private vet clinics averaged about $116,000 a year, while their male colleagues earned about $159,000 annually, a 27 percent difference.

However, entry-level salaries were similar for male and female veterinarians during this same timeframe, but men veterinarians working at companion animal clinics began their careers making $66,000, while women made $64,000 annually.

As of 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, veterinarians earn average salaries of $89,000 annually. Annual salaries for veterinarians within the 50th percentile fall between $61,000 - 104,000 annually, while those with annual earnings in the upper 10th percentile make more than $143,000 a year.
