Veterinary Technician Schools and Colleges

Veterinary technologists and technicians are required to complete college-level training. There are currently 191 American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited veterinary technology training programs in the United States. Most students enter these programs to earn associate’s degrees. 21 colleges offer bachelor’s degree programs in veterinary technology, while 9 colleges offer online courses.

High school students aspiring to work as veterinary technologists or technicians can prepare by taking math, zoology, and biology classes.

Veterinary technologists and technicians are usually required to become state licensed or certified by passing the Veterinary Technician Examination, even though not all states require it. Some states only require registration.
